## Key takeaways

- Manufacturers don't publish lifespans. Retailer and manufacturer articles commonly cite **roughly 5–7 years** for well-kept robots, and **3–4 years** with heavy daily use.
- **Corded robots** have no battery to wear out; **cordless robots** are limited by lithium battery wear, which depends on charge cycles.
- Beatbot's own blog cites roughly **1,000 charge cycles** before a battery loses full capacity: a manufacturer claim we can't verify.
- Warranties run **1 year (Dolphin Nautilus)** to **2–3 years (Aiper, Wybot, Beatbot)**.

Nobody wants to spend $800 on a robot that dies in two seasons. Unfortunately, no manufacturer publishes a guaranteed lifespan, and the multi-year data for the newest cordless robots doesn’t exist yet. Here’s what’s known, what’s claimed, and how to improve your odds.

## What the sources say

Retailer and manufacturer articles commonly give 5 to 7 years as a typical lifespan for a well-maintained robot, with premium models sometimes quoted longer. Daily use cuts that: heavy, every-day running is often cited as bringing the average down to 3 to 4 years. These are rough claims, mostly from companies that sell robots, so treat them as ballparks and not guarantees.

## Corded robots

A corded robot has no battery, which removes the most common wear item on cordless models. The Dolphin Nautilus line is the best-documented: the [Nautilus CC Plus](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/pool-robots/dolphin-nautilus-cc-plus/) has about 14,000 Amazon reviews and the [Nautilus CC](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/pool-robots/dolphin-nautilus-cc/) about 10,700, so there’s a lot of owner history to read. Their weak points are the cable and swivel (kinks and cracks), the tracks, brushes and the motor seals. Dolphin Nautilus models typically carry a 1-year warranty.

## Cordless robots

The battery is the limiting factor. Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity with charge cycles, and heat accelerates it. Beatbot’s own blog cites roughly 1,000 charge cycles before its batteries lose full capacity: about 19 years at one charge a week, but under 3 years at one charge a day. That’s a manufacturer’s claim, and we can’t confirm it. Newer designs are sealed, with no cable to crack and sealed motor blocks, but most cordless robots we track launched in 2025–2026, so there’s no multi-year failure data yet.

Warranties are a better guide: [Beatbot](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/pool-robots/beatbot-aquasense-2/) lists 2–3 years, [Aiper](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/pool-robots/aiper-scuba-s1/) and [Wybot](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/pool-robots/wybot-c1/) 2 years on most models, and the [Seagull SE](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/pool-robots/aiper-seagull-se/) 1 year. See [corded vs cordless](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/posts/corded-vs-cordless-robotic-pool-cleaners/).

## What extends a robot’s life

- **Rinse the filter after every run** so the motor isn’t working against a clogged basket. See [maintenance](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/posts/robotic-pool-cleaner-maintenance/).

- **Don’t run it every day if every other day is enough.** Fewer cycles means less battery and track wear.

- **Keep it out of the sun and out of the water when idle.** Heat is hard on batteries and plastics; follow the manufacturer’s storage guidance.

- **Remove it before shocking the pool** and follow your manual’s chemical limits.

- **Coil the cable (corded) and avoid kinks.**

## When to replace vs repair

Replace worn tracks, brushes and filter baskets, which are the usual consumables. For a cordless robot with a tired battery, check whether the manufacturer sells a replacement battery and at what price before deciding; we can’t quote battery replacement costs because most listings don’t publish them. Your [cost calculator](https://robotpoolcleanerguide.com/tools/cost-calculator/) includes a parts allowance so you can model the years of ownership you expect.

## Frequently asked questions

### How long do robotic pool cleaners last?
There's no official figure. Retailer and manufacturer articles commonly cite about 5–7 years for a well-maintained robot, dropping to 3–4 years with daily use. Treat these as rough guides: the real range depends on the model, the pool and how it's maintained.

### How long does a cordless pool robot battery last?
It depends on charge cycles. Beatbot's own blog cites roughly 1,000 cycles before a battery loses its full capacity, which would be about 19 years charged weekly or under 3 years charged daily. That is a manufacturer claim; real-world wear also depends on heat and storage.

### What fails first on a pool robot?
Commonly reported wear items are the tracks or wheels, brushes, filter baskets, and on cordless models the battery. Corded robots can also have cable and swivel problems.

### Is a corded or cordless robot more durable?
Corded robots have no battery, so they're often reported to outlast cordless ones, though modern sealed cordless robots have no cable to crack. We don't have verified durability data for either, so warranty and owner reviews are the best guide.
